A quilted corduroy jacket lined throughout in sherpa fleece, zipped from hem to chin.
The lining is the reason to buy it. Most corduroy jackets run a thin lining and stop being useful by the end of October. This one is padded and lined in a deep sherpa pile — body, sleeves and the stand collar — so the collar holds heat at the neck instead of just standing up.
Corduroy on a quilted jacket is the unusual part. Padded outerwear is almost always nylon, which shines under a street light and rustles when you move. Cord does neither. It reads matte and textured from across a room, which is what stops a winter jacket looking like sportswear.
Full-length zip, elastic cuffs and a loose hem. The cuffs and the hem are where a padded jacket usually loses its warmth, and both are closed off here.
The trade is bulk. A sherpa lining inside a quilted shell makes a genuinely warm jacket and a wide one — it sits away from the body rather than close to it. If you want a slim winter layer, this is the wrong jacket.
